And We’re Off!

Dear T-D Family,
It’s around that time the walrus said and this missive will be one of many sent throughout the year.

Our 49th Summer Challenge concluded on Friday, August 18th. It was smashing as Annemarie and a staff of 20 put more fun in summer than ever before.

Dr. Allen’s resignation still hurts, but boy have I got news for you! Emmanuel Essiedu will shortly arrive on the Circle. He was born in Ghana and is now a proud U.S. citizen living in the Bronx.  He has 18 prior years teaching mostly science. He also has some of the same personal qualities of Bob Allen. Soft spoken, well spoken, and well-read along with impeccable manners and style make him an invaluable addition.

Actually, you will be able to read more about him this coming Monday on T-D’s website-www.td.edu. Our annual Fall Brochure with this year’s thematic classes will be on line. This edition is loaded with lots of information, school announcements, and future events. The brochure will be mailed to each T-D family on Tuesday, 8/29.

T-D’s master schedule will be posted on line on Monday, August 28th.  Seniors can come to T-D on Thursday, August 31 from 2-4 PM to arrange their classes. On Friday, September 1, from 10 AM-12 PM Juniors will be programmed. That same day Sophomores will do their schedules from 1-3 PM and T-D’s entering Freshmen will be programmed from 4-6 PM.

Any new 2017-18 students enrolled in grades 9-12 should call T-D to schedule a personal appointment for Wednesday, September 6th.

Any 9-12 students unable to attend these scheduling sessions should not worry. Their schedules will be created on the first day of school, September 7th.

Several parents have asked about bus transportation. If your child is in the lower school you should contact your local school district to arrange transportation. Each school district has their own rules. Cut-off dates and grades that no longer receive busing are different among the districts. Listed here are some private companies that have serviced T-D’s students.

Again, we don’t arrange any busing and cannot guarantee that any of the companies listed will be able to transport your child. You should contact Annemarie should you require extra help.

As many of you know, T-D parents often volunteer or are called upon to open their homes to visiting international students. Our first visitors arrive on September 28th. They are from Arezzo, Italy. Click here for the names of the students from the Vittoria Colonna High School. Their itinerary is in print and on line. Their departure date is October 10th. Please call T-D should you be able to host one or more visitors.

T-D is about to inherit a most unusual high schooler. He is ranked the highest of the high, is a model school citizen, and longs for America. Regretfully, he is unable to afford living expenses. Is there a T-D parent with a Mother Teresa-like attitude that would like to adopt him for the year? I don’t mean to be corny, but the expression charity begins at home might apply. Please call T-D to discuss details should you be interested.

Much more to come.

Very truly yours,

Douglas E. Fleming, Jr.
