Dear T-D Family,
I hope everyone is enjoying the rays and waves of summer. Clearly in Houston there is a real problem and I am sure T-D will try to help somehow.
T-D’s first day is September 7th and by then most 6th – 12th graders would have received their schedules. Middle School New Student Orientation is 12:00 noon on September 6th, but returning 6th-8th graders are welcome to attend. Following that noon orientation, schedules will be created for all students entering grades 6-8. New students entering grades 9-12 should be calling Annemarie at T-D to make an individual appointment to create his or her schedule.
Please make sure to read the Fall Preview Brochure at www.td.edu. Within it, many future events are introduced. All thematic courses with the exception of Cool Clear Water have descriptions for students and parents to read.
On Friday, September 8th, there will be an Albanian Cultural Program with music, song, dance, and other venues designed to get the party going.
On Thursday, September 14th, High Schoolers (grades 9-12) will need to be on campus as early as possible. Two buses will be departing at 8:00 AM sharp. T-D is most fortunate that the Long Island Museum of American Art is hosting our school family and introducing us to the work and life of Lumen Martin Winter. Winter resided at 144 Overlook Circle in what we call the Fleming-Winter House. It was there that much of his art was produced. His former studio is now the Sunrise Room. Students must bring their own lunch and will eat on the Museum’s grounds in Stony Brook. We expect to return to
T-D, after a full day of activity, prior to 3:00 PM. The cost is $20.00 per person and needs to be taken care of prior to the day of the trip.
In mid-September T-D will hold its annual Peace Day Program. There will be speakers, music, dance, and other venues, all designed to foster peace and promote good will. Any T-D parent wanting to speak about peace would be a welcome inclusion.
Our UN families will all join together at the White House on September 24th from 4 – 6 PM. The Takona family is serving as hosts for this UN family only gathering.
On Thursday, September 28th, our Italian visitors from Arezzo arrive to bite into the Big Apple. Host families are being sought and should you be able to do so, you’ll better understand T-D and its mission.
Lastly, our Parent-Teacher Partnership holds it first meeting on Tuesday, September 26th at 7:00 PM in the Berns Memorial Library. Melissa Mooney Kretzmer is hoping for a good crowd and lots of energy as the new school year requires lots of participation. The more parents that can help the better the success of the activities that will be taking place during the school year.
It’s soothing being in a place without any breaking news and never anyone in harm’s way.
See you all soon on the Circle,
Douglas E. Fleming, Jr.
